Sunshine Court

I settled for the center of Bangkok, just shortly off the Sukhumvit Road. My flat mates are Oliver, also German and doing an internship with Siemens; Celine, a Belgian girl working for an Australian company; and her boyfriend Yunte, a former professional soccer player from Japan. The Sunshine Court is like a quiet heaven which almost makes us forget that we live in one of the noisiest and busiest mega-cities of this planet. In the mornings I hear the birds calling the wake of the day and watch squirrels jumping around the trees. I relish a quality of living that I couldn’t afford at home. We employ a maid, who takes away the much-disliked task of cleaning once a week and enjoy amenities such as a tennis court, a 24-hour guard and a swimming pool.
The name “Sunshine Court” derives from our 90 year old landlord Mr. Song Chai who adores Europe and wanted to make it easier for his western lodgers. He has built himself a replica of the White House in our backyard with an interior modeled after the Versailles Palace plus the Big Ben and Eiffel Tower on top. Signing our lease contract we were seated in original Italian chairs trying not to seem to much out of place. Nowadays it’s nothing unusual anymore and I enjoy taking visitors to the closest touristy feature to our home.

New condo being build taking away our fantastic views.
